It’s an exciting time to get involved, the Legion will be adapting a new-age approach

The Royal British Legion have been helping service people past and present for over 90 years and spend nearly £1.4 million a week carrying out our welfare support. Our services are flexible and wide ranging, from helping a young widow through an inquest to ensuring that an older veteran can stay independent in their own home.

Currently the biggest issues the welfare team are supporting are:

  • Debt management with our benefits and money advisors
  • Housing support through a wide range of statutory and charitable services
  • Employment support through Civvystreet who help with training, qualifications, business start-up and employment advice
  • Welfare breaks at centres including Byng House in Southport.

If you are a service or ex-service person or know a service or ex-service person and their family is in need, call the welfare team to discuss how we can help.

The Legion is changing its approach to service delivery. The Legion will be opening new drop-in centres and developing a new-age approach to what we do and how we do it. It’s an exciting time to get involved, The Legion will be opening new drop-in centres and developing a new-age approach.

As well as selling poppies in November as part of our Remembrance Campaign, year-round you could become a:

  • Case Worker - assessing people’s needs and ensuring that they receive adequate support through the Legion welfare support services;
  • Home or hospital visiting volunteer – providing support and friendship to veterans
  • Admin support assistant in our office
  • Member (£13 per year) – helping to create a better future for those truly amazing people who have served or are serving in the British forces
