Congratulations to Mike Roscoe who works at our Trust for carrying the Olympic Flame through Morecambe

Congratulations to Mike Roscoe who is a Business Manager at our trust for carrying the Olympic Flame through the town of Morecambe on Friday 22 June.

Mike Roscoe, was nominated to bear the Flame by Trust Deputy Chief Executive Nick Rowe, in recognition of his outstanding efforts to get staff to boost their health and fitness in the build-up to the London 2012 Olympics. Mike said:

“It was a cold, wet Friday morning when I made my way to Morecambe to run with the Olympic Torch. Passing the statue of Eric Morecambe, I pictured him singing “Bring me Sunshine” and crossed my fingers that this might come to fruition. Unfortunately not….

“Despite this, I had the most amazing day of my life! Being part of such a momentous event and having the honour of running with the flame is something I will remember for the rest of my life. The 300m flew past as I waved to crowds, high fived people in the street and gleamed a sodden smile as I passed the flame onto the next bearer with a ‘kiss’ (this is what the passing of the flame is called, it was not a passing romance!).

“What amazed me the most was despite the grey skies, the pouring rain and howling wind, the streets were lined with literally thousands of people screaming, shouting, laughing, smiling and clapping. Gaggles of school children dressed as mini flames adorned every corner, waving banners and cheering. It really shocked me and opened my eyes to see how strong and positive we can all be when we are brought together for something like this. Its an image, a feeling and a story which I will tell to my children and grandchildren in the future and I hope the torch itself will be a family heirloom for many years to come!”
