St Helens Mind need befriender volunteers, can you help?

St.Helens Mind has over 30 volunteers successfully befriending someone who benefits greatly from their support. However, there are also over 50 people awaiting a volunteer to help them through a difficult time in their lives, some have been waiting over 3 years for the right person to help them. Could it be you?

You are never too old to volunteer! St.Helens Mind is looking for many more Volunteer Befrienders, especially aged 50+ to help local people. Could you offer a couple of hours a week to befriend someone who has become socially isolated because of mental health difficulties? Maybe you have had some difficulty yourself, or with a friend or relative, and can now help someone else?

St.Helens Mind urgently needs volunteers who are committed to the wellbeing of local people of all ages who are at risk of becoming isolated due to mental ill health. Your time and commitment could make a massive difference to someone’s life, who would benefit from having someone talk to and help them to enjoy community life and the things we often take for granted.

St.Helens Mind volunteers are highly valued and play a vital role in the Service we provide. Volunteers can offer support in many ways. You could provide practical or emotional support to someone, whether it is helping them to pursue an activity, be part of the community or help them to go to appointments. Volunteers would be offered training, support and reimbursement of expenses. Volunteers are also needed to help at Social Groups and at the allotment.

Gill Ellison, Befriending Service Co-ordinator at St.Helens Mind says: “We welcome volunteers of all ages, both male and female (18+) and from all walks of life. You will just need to complete an application form, come in for a chat about the role and we will then arrange your induction, references and police check.”
