“Have you ever considered a career in Psychiatry?”

“Have you ever considered a career in Psychiatry?” was the question posed to this year’s intake of medical students by a local NHS mental health trust at Saturday’s NHS Mersey Deanery Medical Careers Fayre.

Psychiatrists and doctors from 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust engaged more than 100 students in conversations around the discipline at the event on Saturday 15 September held in Lutyen’s Crypt at the Metropolitan Cathedral.

“The opportunity it provides to trail-blaze in medical research is just one of the many reasons why we hope medical students will consider psychiatry as a future career aspiration,” says Dr Ashley Baldwin, Director of Medical Education and Research at the Trust.

“Our stand evidenced how our psychiatrists have pioneered the use of skin camouflage creams in the treatment of self-harm; recruited the first NHS patient in an international dementia drug trial and, most importantly, supported patients to recover from and live well with serious mental illness.

‘I hope that this year’s students will have been inspired by what they heard and saw, and to welcome them as a learning colleague at Hollins Park in the future.”

The Trust offers an undergraduate programme, post graduate trainee programme and Selectives in Advanced Medical Practice (SAMPS).
